What Is Nd:YAG Laser Tattoo and Pigment Removal?

Laser tattoo and pigment removal uses highly focused laser energy to break down unwanted ink and pigment beneath the surface of the skin. The laser delivers concentrated pulses of light that are absorbed by the targeted pigment, breaking it into tiny fragments that the body’s immune system naturally clears over time. With each session, the tattoo or pigmentation gradually fades.

At Elevate Med Spa, we perform these treatments with an Nd:YAG dual-wavelength laser, which offers two wavelengths in one device: 1064 nm and 532 nm. Having both wavelengths lets our providers match the treatment to your specific ink colors, pigment depth and skin type, targeting unwanted pigment while protecting the surrounding healthy skin.

Every treatment at Elevate is personalized. Your provider will assess the size, color, age and depth of your tattoo or pigmentation concern and design a treatment plan tailored to your skin and your goals.

Our Nd:YAG 1064/532 nm Dual-Wavelength Laser

Different colors of ink and pigment absorb different wavelengths of light, so having two wavelengths in one laser gives our providers more flexibility and precision.

1064 nm reaches deeper into the skin and targets dark pigment, making it the preferred wavelength for black and dark blue tattoo ink and deeper pigmentation. It is also gentler on the skin’s natural pigment, which makes it a strong option for a wide range of skin tones.

532 nm works closer to the surface and targets warmer colors, making it well suited to red, orange and yellow tattoo ink as well as superficial pigmentation such as sun spots, age spots and freckles.

Your provider will choose the right wavelength and settings for each area, and may use both in the same treatment for multicolored tattoos.

How Many Sessions Do You Need?

The number of sessions varies depending on the size, color, age and depth of the tattoo or pigmentation, as well as your skin tone and immune response. Most tattoos require multiple sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart, giving your body time to clear the broken-down ink between treatments.

Pigmentation concerns such as sun spots and age spots often respond more quickly, and many clients see significant improvement within one to three sessions. Darker, denser and newer tattoos generally take more sessions than older or faded ones.

During your consultation, your provider will evaluate your tattoo or pigmentation concern and give you a realistic estimate of the number of sessions needed to reach your goals.

Laser Facial Peel

Our Nd:YAG laser isn’t only for tattoos and pigment. It also powers our laser facial peel, a quick, non-invasive treatment that refreshes the skin with little to no downtime.

The laser facial peel uses gentle laser energy to exfoliate the surface of the skin, helping to refine the look of pores, reduce oiliness, brighten dull skin and even out tone and texture. Many clients leave with an immediate glow, making it a popular choice before an event or as part of a regular skincare routine.

Your provider will customize your laser facial peel to your skin type and goals, and can recommend a series for longer-lasting results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Complete removal is possible for many tattoos, especially older, faded or black ink tattoos. How much can be removed depends on the ink colors, depth and age of the tattoo, as well as individual factors such as skin tone and immune response. Your provider will give you a realistic assessment during your consultation.

The 1064 nm wavelength is highly effective on black and dark blue ink, while the 532 nm wavelength targets red, orange and yellow ink. Green and light blue inks are the most resistant to removal and may need more sessions or show more limited fading. Your provider will review your ink colors and set realistic expectations during your consultation.

Most clients describe the sensation as similar to the snap of a rubber band against the skin. Comfort varies with the size and location of the treatment area and your pain tolerance, and topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand. Pigment removal and laser facial peels are typically more comfortable than tattoo removal.

For sun spots and age spots, many clients notice fading within two to four weeks of their first treatment as the pigment rises to the surface and clears. Tattoos fade progressively between sessions as the immune system clears the treated ink. Laser facial peel results are often visible right away.

A laser facial peel uses our Nd:YAG laser to gently exfoliate and refresh the skin. It helps refine the appearance of pores, brighten dullness and smooth uneven texture, with little to no downtime.

Yes. Many clients pair laser treatments with skin health services such as red light therapy, hydro dermabrasion and bio stimulator cocktail mesotherapy to support healing and overall skin clarity. Your provider can help design a comprehensive plan during your consultation.
